1 Samuel 21:1-15; 1 Samuel 22:1-23

David is on the run, hunted by King Saul, and desperate for refuge. In 1 Samuel 21-22, he seeks sanctuary, arriving fearful, hungry, and flawed. Even as David stumbles through deception, God graciously provides bread, protection, and hope. In sharp contrast stands Doeg, a man who appears religious but is driven by self-interest and cruelty. Their stories reveal the difference between those who run to God in their need and those who merely use religion for their own gain. Amid human failure, violence, and injustice, God's grace remains the refuge for sinners, and his justice assures that evil will not have the final word.
